Dark clouds smeared the early morning skies, it felt as if it were to rain. You thought of this as a good sign, perhaps the wilted crops in the fields would be saved. Dreary eyes scanned over the poverty stricken village, everyone was sick and hopeless; you turned your back on the silent village and entered your cottage to separate herbs.

Your features were soft, but your hands were scarred from working in the fields and taking on jobs that were deemed a man's work. Living alone, you couldn't depend on anyone to do a task for you, seeing as most of the men were weak as well. Frail bodies and broken souls. The lands were ravaged by illness and vikings from far off lands, this all crushed your once thriving village with the sickness that infested humans and crops, and attacks that harbored nearby towns and cities that destroyed business' and trade routes.

One of the few horses your village obtained, whinnied in distraught nearby. You figured a mouse had scared it. Slowing your pace with separating herbs into woven baskets, you narrowed your ears to listen. Brusk whispers belonging to men could be heard a few meters away from your cottage. It was extremely early in the morning, the sun was still rising over the mountains, not many people were ever awake at this time within your village.

"Burn down anything you come into contact with, steal the horses and loot the valuables. Kill anyone who dares put up a fight, tie up the women and children, if any man surrenders, tie them up as well. You men know the drill."

"Whose voice is that?" You thought to yourself, making your way to a window. Peering out your little cottage window, you saw men go off in different directions, men who wore clothing that wasn't native to your lands. In the blink of an eye, buildings turned red and horse's neighed in fright, the fires spread rapidly and people began to scream in terror.

With the skies filling with agonizing screams and thick, black smoke, you weren't sure what to do. The thought of viking's raiding your little village never passed your mind, you figured you were too far inland to be hit by a raid. Stupidly enough, you didn't count the fact that they had horses to ride that they brought on their ships. You backed up into a dark corner of your home, afraid to be seen by the raiders, afraid to witness the sight outside. The last images you saw were people being yanked out of their blazing homes, some being slaughtered.

Sitting in your dark corner terrified didn't last too long, a loud crackling noise and the smell of smoke entered your home. The hay-thatched roof of your house had caught fire from the cottage next door. "Oh no!" You screamed in your own thoughts. Quickly, you fled to your room on the other side of the cottage and rummaged through your nightstand to find the two golden rings your Mother and Father left behind when they died from the plague that washed over the cities. She and your Father had gone off to a city about two hours away to sell crops, while their stay in the city, they caught the illness that slowly deteriorated them over a week. It was a miracle that you didn't get the fatal disease, perhaps it was brought on by a parasite. You placed your Father's ring on your thumb and your Mother's ring on the middle finger of your right hand, then quickly escaped your burning home.

Red embers flew through the air and the stench of blood was strong, it splattered the ground from those who put up a fight. Women and children were tied up and crying, some men managed to get tied up as well, though the majority were now corpses.

"I'm going to get killed if I put up a fight.." Crawling on your hands and knees now, trying to be as unnoticeable as possible to the busied Viking's, you began to crawl towards a wagon of hay to hide in. "o-or.. tie me up and rape me.. or.. or..." A desperate sigh escaped your trembling lips. "Vikings.. are cruel.."

Two large, heavy booted feet collided with the ground in front of your trembling person. It was like once those feet hit the ground, the skies opened up and the angels residing within wept and the Devil's underneath the slippery ground cackled. The water droplets and smooth winds fought with the fire, but the flames didn't seem like they'd give up any time soon. You were so close to hiding in the wagon of hay, but not fast enough. Wearily looking up, a man who looked about your age stood above you. He had short blonde hair with a small braid framing the right side of his face. He was brawny and intimidating with those large muscles--- humungous sheathed claymore and stoic visage.

"I-I'm going to die aren't I?" You breathed shakily with tears building up in your eyes, you trembled in his presence, alone with your thoughts. "N-No.. he.. he's going to rape me."

The faintest of smiles appeared on his thin lips, the man crouched down to you, but you recoiled in fear; shutting your eyes tightly a small scream emitted from your throat. You readied yourself for the worst. A few agonizing moments passed, but nothing happened. Wearily opening your eyes, he continued to crouch in front of you in the down pour of the storm, he frowned slightly before giving a reassuring smile. He held out an un-gloved hand and spoke up with a stern yet soothing voice.

"It's okay, just come with me. Nothing bad will happen to you."  That was the last thing you heard until a blunt object collided with the back of your head, forcing you into an unconscious state.

"God damn it! Bertholdt! Why'd you do that!"

"Just making it easier for you, women like to scream and put up a fuss. Stop flirting with the females, you know there's nothing  'good' waiting for them. They're only to be sold off on the black market, by horrible people like ourselves. To work until their bones show through their skin. Tie her up and throw her with the rest of the...living dead... more rather." Letting out an agitated sigh, the brawny, blonde Viking brought out his ropes. No way in hell was he going to let you be sold off to some creep, even if he had to buy you himself, he would. He couldn't promise the others' future's, but yours, he could.

"She'sbeautiful.. despite how frail she is. Actually.. she's in better shape than the other villager's." He bound your limbs together loosely, he didn't want to hurt you any further. "Better take these." Grasping your limp hand with his gloved hand, his callused, naked one, nimbly slid off your golden rings and pocketed them before throwing you up on his shoulder with ease.

"YOU MONSTERS!"  A woman wailed, a child cried, and a man looked despair straight in the eye.

"Mmm.." A gentle and groggy moan escaped your lips as you slowly awoke out of your dreaming state. You felt warm and secure, currently, you laid in the comfiest bed you ever laid upon. But, whose bed was it? Once that thought crossed your mind, you shot up immediately to figure out what the hell just happened and where your last thought was left. All you could muster up was a blurry vision of a man smiling at you, it felt comforting. "Who.. was that a dream? No.. my village was raided.. where am I?" Whispering to yourself, you smoothed your hand over the animal furs on the bed. "Where are my rings...! Damn it! Greedy savages.."

"Bertholdt, please, you can't take her."

"Why not? Reiner. This isn't very like you.." Two men began to speak outside the door, you were frightened to say the least and quickly hopped out of the bed and grabbed the nearest blunt object you could find which happened to be a shield.

    "You.. just can't."

"...." A frustrated sigh exhaled. "Well what do you want me to do? That's one less woman to sell off."

"We'll get more! What's one woman to hundreds?!"

    "Do you like this girl?"

"... Er.. well.. She's cute.. ha.."

"Just because you think she's cu-"

"Bertholdt! Listen, buddy, old friend, brother. I need a girl to take care of me ya see? Someone to clean up after me-"

"There's plenty of native women arou-"

    "I don't like them, they're all.. ick.."

"What makes you think this girl will listen to you anyways?"

"She doesn't seem like much of a fighter, I doubt she'll be any trouble. Come on please, we've known each other since birth, brother. You know I'm not one to grovel, but if I must, I will. What more do you want from me? I'm your right hand man, your best warrior, your most loyal subordinate. Just one woman! That's all I ask for! One woman!"

"Pick yourself up.... I'll grant you this one woman... let me see her."

"I think she's still sleeping, but yeah, sure." The door swung open slowly, it was as if Reiner didn't want to disturb you. You were a mere frightened rabbit who didn't know what to do, so you screamed and threw the shield in their direction.

"D-Don't touch me! I swear I'll kill you!"

    "Not a threat you say?"

"She's not! She's just scared. It's alright, we're not going to hurt you.. H-Hey! Don't touch that, you'll hurt yourself!" The brawny man that you remember seeing in your dreams, rather reality, charged at you and seized your hands as they were about to pick up a flail. That would of been a disaster if you had picked it up. "It's alright.. we just want to talk to you. What's your name? I'm Reiner. This is Bertholdt.. he's our leader."

    "Why did you untie her?"

    "She seemed uncomfortable.. Sheesh."

"Well, speak up woman, what's your name?"

    "Where are they!"

    "Where is what? Crazy broad.."

"Oh, do you mean these?" Reiner carefully pulled his arm away from yours and shoved his hand in his pocket, after rummaging around for a moment he pulled out two rings. "I took them so someone else didn't. Here." Your eyes wandered up to his visage once more, you were hesitant to say the least. That same sweet smile appeared on his thin lips again, one that was reassuring and comforting. He took your hand and forcefully placed the rings into your palm.

    "Reiner, if she doesn't sp-"

"(First name)...I'm (First,Last). My parents were murdered by the plague seven years ago, I pick crops and herbs and did a little blacksmithing as a side job. I'm your common peasant girl."

"We have a proposal to make you, Miss (First)." Bertholdt stepped closer, pushing Reiner out of the way. "Instead of selling you on the black market and into the hands of slave owners, we will keep you here at our palace as my brother, Reiner's chambermaid and domestic servant for the rest of us. Reiner is responsible for you and only you, you will be executed in an unfavorable fashion if you endanger us, we are Vikings after all, whom don't need a hindrance. If you don't accept, we will sell you and you will be caught in damnation for the rest of your living life, if you fight off, you will be killed. Do you accept?" You thought for a long few moments with the intense stare of two men who could easily kill you with a finger, you surely felt like a rabbit surrounded by wolves. You looked from Bertholdt to Reiner continuously searching for some kind of hope. Reiner's face softened into that familiar smile which had made up your mind.

"I.. accept the official invitation to be a chambermaid and domestic servant for the Viking Lords, Sir Bertholdt and Sir Reiner."

Part two:
The Viking's Maiden (Viking!Reiner x Reader)[Pt.2]
:iconstop1plz::iconstop2plz::iconstop3plz::iconstop4plz:
So, I was originally going to make this story a one-shot, but a couple of days ago it was really long and I figured it'd be a ridiculously long and poorly put together one-shot if I went that route. SO, I figured I'd make it into a mini-series. :) I want to make this the best piece of work I have ever written (and so far I think it has), mainly due to the fact I haven't written a series since middle school, almost 7 years now, and practically when I first started writing.

I hope you all enjoy the first chapter of The Viking's Maiden! la in love
